The Seed Systems Group (SSG), working with Ghana's Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the CSIR-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI), has launched an initiative to improve farmers' access to high-quality pearl millet and cowpea seed varieties in northern Ghana. The programme aims to strengthen local seed systems and ensure that improved crop varieties developed through research reach smallholder farmers.

The initiative is part of the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) programme and focuses on increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening climate resilience, and enhancing food security through the adoption of improved seed varieties. Efficient seed distribution and collaboration among research institutions, government agencies, and private-sector partners are central to the programme.

By expanding access to improved pearl millet seeds, the programme is expected to help farmers achieve higher yields, improve incomes, and promote sustainable agricultural development across northern Ghana.
