India has achieved a major milestone in agricultural exports with the successful dispatch of its first-ever sea shipment of ready-to-cook, value-added millet foods from Karnataka to New Zealand, marking a significant step in expanding the global reach of Indian millet-based products. Facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), this landmark shipment highlights the rising international demand for nutritious, innovative, and sustainable millet foods derived from India’s traditional grains. The export consignment, weighing one metric tonne, was shipped by Infini Agrotek LLP, based in Bengaluru, and included a range of ready-to-cook millet-based products designed to meet evolving global consumer preferences for healthy and functional foods.
This export underscores the growing opportunities for value-added agricultural products from India and reflects the country’s strengthening position in the international agri-food market. The success of this shipment was driven in part by sustained market outreach and strategic participation in APEDA-supported international trade events, including World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025, and Gulfood 2026. These platforms enabled the exporter to build valuable business relationships, engage with international buyers, and expand its global market presence, ultimately leading to the export order from New Zealand.
The shipment was virtually flagged off by Abhishek Dev, who commended the company’s efforts in developing innovative millet-based products and successfully entering overseas markets. He also encouraged continued participation in trade fairs and export promotion initiatives to unlock new business opportunities and further strengthen market access. The export of botanical-infused millet functional foods reflects the increasing global acceptance of millet as a superfood, known for its high nutritional value, climate resilience, and sustainability.
This growing demand is expected to directly benefit millet farmers by improving market access, increasing demand for produce, and strengthening the overall millet value chain. As consumer interest in healthier and environmentally sustainable food choices continues to rise worldwide, India’s millet sector is emerging as a vital contributor to agricultural diversification and export growth. The successful shipment to New Zealand reinforces the global potential of India’s millet industry and demonstrates how value-added processing can create long-term opportunities for farmers, food processors, and exporters alike.
