RARI Patna Hosts Traditional Foods and Millets Expo for Ayurveda Day

RARI Patna organised an Exhibition-cum-Mini Expo and Traditional Food Event at its Agamkuan campus to mark the 11th Ayurveda Day. Observed under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow”, the programme aimed to increase public awareness about Ayurveda, traditional and nutritious foods, millets (Shri Anna), and healthy lifestyle practices. The event brought together food, nutrition and traditional wellness concepts while highlighting how everyday dietary choices can contribute to healthier living.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Krishna Pandey, Director, ICMR-RMNIHR. Dr. Banamali Das, In-charge of RARI, highlighted the importance of traditional and nutritious foods described in Ayurveda. He emphasised the value of including local, seasonal and diverse food grains in a balanced diet. The programme encouraged participants to understand traditional dietary knowledge and its relevance to nutrition and daily food habits.

A key attraction of the Mini Expo was the display of traditional and nutritious food preparations. The exhibition featured local foods, millets and other health-promoting ingredients, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn more about their role in everyday diets. Information was shared about the nutritional significance and health-promoting properties of the showcased foods, along with guidance on their appropriate use. The inclusion of millets, also referred to as Shri Anna, reinforced the programme’s focus on diverse and nutritious food grains.

Alongside the food exhibition, RARI Patna conducted health screenings and medical examinations for patients, attendants and members of the general public. Ayurvedic medicines were distributed wherever required. Visitors also received books and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials covering Ayurveda, nutrition, disease prevention and healthy lifestyle practices. These activities helped extend the programme beyond the exhibition by providing participants with practical health information and access to Ayurveda-related resources.

The event also sensitised participants to the importance of balanced nutrition, appropriate dietary practices, regular daily routines, Yoga and healthy lifestyles. Particular emphasis was placed on adapting food and lifestyle practices according to the season and an individual’s constitution, known as Prakriti, in accordance with Ayurvedic principles. By bringing together traditional foods, millets, Ayurveda, health screening and lifestyle awareness, the programme presented an integrated approach to nutrition and wellness while encouraging greater awareness of local and seasonal food choices.
