The Andhra Pradesh government has started seed distribution support for farmers in Kalyandurg constituency ahead of the Kharif 2026 season.
According to Kalyandurg MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu, around 5,000 farmers have registered for subsidised seeds in the constituency. As part of the programme, seeds of groundnut, red gram, and millets are being distributed to support farmers before the upcoming cultivation season.
The seed distribution programme was held at the local Praja Vedika. Agriculture officials stated that Kalyandurg was the first constituency in the district to begin the seed distribution process for the new season. Nearly 2,200 quintals of groundnut seed pods have already been made available to meet farmer demand. Along with groundnut, farmers were also advised to consider alternative crops such as red gram, bajra, jowar, and other millets.
This advice is especially important because weather forecasts indicate the possibility of reduced rainfall due to El Niño conditions. In such a situation, millets and pulses can become safer crop choices because they are better suited to water-scarce conditions compared to many traditional crops.
MLA Surendra Babu encouraged farmers to make informed crop decisions and reduce risks linked with uncertain monsoon patterns. He also highlighted future government support through schemes, irrigation improvements, farm equipment, and guidance on balanced fertiliser use.
The Kalyandurg seed distribution initiative shows how timely government support, quality seeds, crop diversification, and millet promotion can help farmers face climate challenges more confidently.
By encouraging crops like bajra, jowar, and other millets, this programme also strengthens the larger movement towards sustainable farming, nutrition security, and climate-resilient agriculture.
