The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has reported significant progress under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), which is helping expand India's food processing capacity, strengthen exports, and generate employment. Since its launch, the scheme has supported investments exceeding ₹9,200 crore, resulting in increased production capacity, higher sales, and the creation of more than 3.35 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
Millet products have been identified as a dedicated segment under the scheme, reflecting the government's continued emphasis on promoting value-added millet processing. Unlike other product categories, millet and organic food segments do not require committed investment commitments, making it easier for enterprises to participate and scale up production.
The scheme also provides financial assistance for international branding and marketing of Indian food products, enabling eligible companies to expand their presence in overseas markets. In parallel, the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme continues to support micro food processing units through credit-linked subsidies, technology upgrades, training, common processing infrastructure, branding, and market access.
The government believes these initiatives are strengthening India's food processing ecosystem while encouraging innovation, export competitiveness, and greater value addition in sectors including millet-based products.
