Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader has reaffirmed Karnataka's commitment to advancing the global millet movement during his recent visit to the United States, where he participated in discussions on nutrition, food safety, healthcare, and India–U.S. collaboration.

Speaking at the eighth GSA India–USA Millets Partnership Roundtable hosted at the Consulate General of India in Chicago, Khader highlighted the importance of millets as a nutritious and sustainable food for improving public health.

As one of India's leading millet-producing states, Karnataka continues to play a significant role in expanding millet cultivation, consumption, and international awareness. Khader stressed that India's long-standing tradition of producing nutrient-rich millets offers valuable solutions for healthier diets worldwide.

The minister noted that food habits have a direct impact on health and encouraged greater global adoption of millets as part of balanced nutrition. He said promoting healthier foods today would contribute to the well-being of future generations.

During his visit, Khader also engaged with Purdue University's College of Agriculture to study advanced food safety systems and nutrition initiatives. He expressed interest in adopting global best practices to strengthen Karnataka's food safety policies and improve child nutrition through future collaborations.

Alongside discussions on healthcare innovation and international partnerships, the minister emphasized that nutrition should remain central to public health strategies. He called for stronger cooperation between India and the global community in promoting healthy, sustainable food systems where millets can play an increasingly important role.

Karnataka has been at the forefront of India's millet promotion initiatives, supporting cultivation, value addition, research, and consumer awareness. The minister's remarks further reinforce the state's vision of positioning millets as an important component of global nutrition and food security.
