The Gujarat government has announced a new procurement programme for the 2026–27 Kharif Marketing Season that includes three important millet crops — pearl millet (bajra), sorghum (jowar) and finger millet (ragi).

Farmers will be able to register for MSP procurement between October 2 and October 31, 2026, while actual procurement will take place from November 16, 2026 to January 15, 2027 through the Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation.

For the season, the MSP has been set at ₹2,900 per quintal for bajra, ₹4,023 for hybrid jowar, ₹4,073 for Maldandi jowar and ₹5,205 for ragi. Importantly for millet growers, Gujarat will provide an additional ₹300 per quintal bonus on each of these millet crops.

This means the effective procurement support, including the announced state bonus, reaches ₹3,200 per quintal for bajra, ₹4,323 for hybrid jowar, ₹4,373 for Maldandi jowar and ₹5,505 for ragi.

Registration is mandatory and will involve Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. Farmers will also need relevant land records and bank-account information. Registered farmers will subsequently receive procurement information through SMS.

The announcement provides a significant state-level follow-up to India's broader millet procurement framework. Millets.News recently reported that combined coarse-grain and millet procurement reached 16.38 lakh metric tonnes in 2025–26, the highest level in five years.
