A new Canadian startup, Millecious Inc., is introducing millet-based ready-to-cook meals inspired by traditional Indian cuisine to promote healthier eating and greater awareness of millets. Founded by Abhijit Shanbhag and Pabita Brabhu, the Guelph-based business offers convenient meal options that combine the nutritional benefits of millets with flavours adapted to Canadian tastes.
Inspired by his experience growing up in India, where millets are a staple food, Shanbhag began developing recipes after moving to Canada in search of quick, healthy meals. Over the past year, the couple refined their products through consumer feedback, ensuring they retained authentic Indian recipes while appealing to local preferences.
The company is launching with two products—Millet Dosa and Millet Khichdi—and plans to gradually expand its product range. Beyond selling ready-to-cook meals, the founders aim to educate consumers about the health benefits and versatility of millets, encouraging their inclusion in everyday diets.
Millecious Inc. will debut its products at the Guelph Farmers' Market, marking an important step in introducing traditional Indian millet-based foods to Canadian consumers.
