Kenya has launched the Food Culture Alliance (FCA) Strategy 2026–2030, a national roadmap aimed at encouraging healthier, more sustainable, and culturally relevant food choices. Led by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and supported by stakeholders across the nutrition sector, the strategy seeks to revive indigenous foods, including traditional grains such as millets, by integrating them into everyday diets.

The initiative promotes greater consumption of locally produced, nutritious foods while encouraging communities, food vendors, and policymakers to preserve Kenya's rich food heritage. As part of the strategy, Nairobi City County plans to establish designated street food vending zones that will showcase traditional cuisines and improve food safety through vendor training on hygienic food handling.

By promoting indigenous foods such as millets, the strategy aims to improve nutrition, strengthen sustainable food systems, and reconnect younger generations with traditional dietary practices. The roadmap also supports broader efforts to build healthier communities while creating new opportunities for local food businesses and farmers.
