The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gurez, under Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), organized an awareness and training programme on millets as part of the Jammu & Kashmir Science, Technology & Innovation Council (JKSTIC) initiative. The programme aimed to encourage farmers to adopt nutritious and climate-resilient millet crops while improving their understanding of modern cultivation practices.

Experts interacted with farmers on the nutritional value of millets, their adaptability to changing climatic conditions, and their potential to strengthen household food security and farm incomes. Participants were also introduced to improved production techniques, crop management practices, and opportunities for value addition.

The training emphasized the growing importance of millets in sustainable agriculture due to their low water requirement and resilience under challenging environmental conditions. Farmers were encouraged to diversify cropping systems by integrating millets alongside other crops to improve long-term agricultural sustainability.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to build awareness about millet cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir through scientific outreach and farmer education. Such programmes play an important role in promoting climate-smart agriculture while helping farming communities benefit from the expanding interest in nutritious traditional grains.
