The call by Millets.News – Millets International Media Portal to observe August 30 as World Millets Day is continuing to inspire meaningful initiatives across different regions, with organisations and individuals planning programmes focused on millet awareness, nutrition, farmers, health, and sustainability.

Among the latest initiatives, The Fresh Start Wellness Cafe, in association with Y2K TOTS Foundation, will organise a special DiaCare Project programme in Thrissur, Kerala, on August 30, 2026.

As part of the World Millets Day programme, the organisers will provide diabetic-friendly millet nutrition kits to 200 children living with Type 1 Diabetes, completely free of cost.

A Millet Nutrition Initiative for Type 1 Diabetes Children

DiaCare has been envisioned as a dedicated initiative focused on providing diabetic-friendly millet nutrition support to children with Type 1 Diabetes.

According to the organisers, the project currently reaches a network of nearly 5,000 Type 1 Diabetes children on a rotational basis, with millet nutrition kits being distributed free of cost every month.

The initiative aims not only to provide nutritional support, but also to create greater awareness among children and families about incorporating appropriate millet-based foods into a balanced daily dietary routine.

The organisers believe that the programme reflects the larger purpose behind World Millets Day — taking millet awareness beyond symbolic celebration and translating it into practical, community-focused action.

Responding to the World Millets Day Call

Millets.News had earlier invited organisations, institutions, universities, health professionals, businesses, farmer groups, communities, and individuals across India and around the world to conduct at least one meaningful millet-focused activity on August 30.

The response has resulted in a growing number of programmes being planned, ranging from awareness sessions and seminars to food distribution, farmer engagement, community events, and nutrition-focused initiatives.

The DiaCare programme in Thrissur adds a distinct child-health dimension to this growing participation.

Renjith George, Managing Director of The Fresh Start Wellness Cafe and Founder & Managing Trustee of Y2K TOTS Foundation, said the initiative is intended to support children who can benefit from greater awareness around suitable food choices and millet-based nutrition.

The organisers will also share programme details, photographs, highlights, and outcomes with Millets.News for pre-event promotion and post-event coverage.

From Celebration to Meaningful Action

Millets.News has emphasised that the scale of a World Millets Day activity is less important than its purpose and impact.

The intention behind the August 30 observance is to encourage every participating organisation to contribute in a way that creates awareness, supports communities, strengthens nutrition education, or promotes the wider millet ecosystem.

With more institutions now coming forward, World Millets Day 2026 is beginning to take shape as a collective movement driven by local action and global participation.

The Thrissur programme demonstrates how a millet-focused observance can be connected with a specific community need and translated into direct support.
