Koraput, Odisha

The programme formed part of the growing observance of World Millets Day on August 30, introduced by the Millets International Media Portal, which had called upon the millet community, organisations, institutions and individuals to conduct meaningful activities promoting millets, nutrition, traditional food systems and sustainable agriculture.

During the programme at Mulda, participants came together around a creative display made using different varieties of millets and grains. The activity highlighted the diversity of millets and encouraged greater awareness about their importance in everyday food and rural livelihoods.

The event also reflected the strong connection between millets and traditional community practices. Local participants actively took part in the celebration, making the programme a grassroots-level initiative that brought the message of World Millets Day directly to the community.

The celebration at Koraput is particularly significant as the district has a rich agricultural tradition and a strong connection with millet cultivation and consumption.

The programme was organised under the banner of PRAGATI at Mulda, Nandapur Block, Koraput District, on 30 August 2026.

With events such as this taking place in different parts of the country, the call given by Millets International Media Portal for World Millets Day is bringing together communities at the grassroots level and helping build wider awareness around millets, nutrition, agriculture and sustainable living.
