Kezoma village in Nagaland's Kohima district has earned recognition as a model village for its successful efforts to revive millet cultivation. In support of this achievement, the District Agriculture Office (DAO), Kohima, commissioned a modern millet threshing machine and a specialised millet milling machine to improve post-harvest processing and reduce labour for local farmers.

According to agriculture officials, millet cultivation in the region had declined significantly over the past few decades. Through the collective efforts of farmers, community organisations, and local institutions, Kezoma has successfully restored millet farming and emerged as one of the district's leading millet-producing villages. The newly introduced machinery is expected to increase efficiency, minimise post-harvest losses, and encourage farmers to expand cultivation.

During the inauguration, agriculture officials demonstrated the operation and maintenance of the equipment, enabling farmers to adopt modern processing techniques. Community leaders welcomed the initiative, stating that combining traditional farming knowledge with appropriate mechanisation will improve productivity while reducing physical labour. Several churches, farmer groups, and individual growers in the village have also expanded millet cultivation, reflecting growing community participation.

Kezoma's success highlights how community-driven initiatives, supported by government programmes and modern farm technology, can revive traditional crops and strengthen local food systems. The village now serves as an example of how millet cultivation can contribute to sustainable agriculture, rural livelihoods, and the preservation of indigenous farming traditions
