A new millet-focused restaurant has been inaugurated at Kishenpur Manwal in the Dansal area of Jammu, creating another local platform for promoting millet foods and rural entrepreneurship.
The restaurant was established under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) through the Dansal subdivision's “Promotion of Nutricereals and Millets” project.
Local resident Kartar Singh of Kharta Panchayat established the restaurant with the aim of promoting millet-based food products while encouraging value addition using locally available crops. The initiative is also intended to create an additional source of income and entrepreneurship for rural households.
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Ashwani Gupta formally inaugurated the outlet. During the programme, officials sampled a variety of millet-based snacks and food products, demonstrating the different ways millets can be incorporated into foods.
Beyond serving millet dishes, the initiative is intended to increase public awareness and encourage greater consumption of millet-based foods within the local community.
Officials said HADP initiatives would continue to focus on nutrition, value addition, entrepreneurship and income generation, creating opportunities for farmers and rural youth while expanding awareness of millet foods.
The Kishenpur Manwal outlet adds to millet-focused food enterprises emerging under HADP in Jammu and Kashmir. Millets.News previously reported on a separate millet restaurant established in Pathwal, Kathua, demonstrating how restaurant-based initiatives are being used to connect millet promotion with local enterprise development.
