TAAT has updated its technology portfolio to strengthen biological control methods for managing key insect pests affecting sorghum and millet, particularly the Millet Head Miner and Fall Armyworm. These pests pose significant threats to crop productivity, making effective and sustainable control measures essential for protecting yields and farmer livelihoods.
The improved biological control technologies are being integrated under the ENSURE project, which is being implemented across seven regions within the East African Community. The initiative aims to reach approximately three million farmers by promoting environmentally friendly pest management solutions that reduce dependence on chemical pesticides.
By focusing on practical, farmer-oriented approaches, the programme supports improved crop protection, higher productivity, and more resilient farming systems. The initiative is also expected to strengthen climate-smart agriculture practices, helping smallholder farmers safeguard their sorghum and millet harvests under changing environmental conditions.
