The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Ranchi has received copyright registration for its standardized preparation process of Madua Laddoo, a traditional sweet made from finger millet (ragi). The registration, granted under the Copyright Act, 1957, recognises the institute's documented methodology for preparing the product while preserving its traditional roots and ensuring consistent quality.

Developed by the institute's faculty, the initiative combines indigenous culinary knowledge with scientific documentation to make the recipe suitable for education, research and commercial applications. IHM Ranchi believes that protecting traditional millet-based products through intellectual property can encourage innovation, strengthen local food heritage and create new opportunities for entrepreneurship, nutrition-focused businesses and rural livelihoods.

The institute noted that finger millet is valued for its nutritional benefits and climate resilience, making it an important ingredient for sustainable food systems. The copyright registration also strengthens IHM Ranchi's broader efforts to promote millet-based products, food innovation and start-up development while increasing the visibility of Jharkhand's traditional cuisine.
